Hiraki Sawa’s video installations present intimate observations within transitory landscapes—familiar surroundings inhabited by anoetic forms. By framing time as a relative construct, Sawa exposes its fluid nature through the subtle accumulation of events and shifts in presence. Trees growing from a table or a clock endowed with legs are natural to Sawa’s logic, yet remain unpredictable for the viewer. Through a seamless blend of animation, precise lighting, and meticulous composition, he translates his imagination into a tangible dimension that navigates the parallel languages of sculpture and film. |

Inspired by the opening chapter, “The First Night,” of Soseki Natsume’s novel Ten Nights of Dreams, this video work reimagines the story of a man who spends 100 years sitting in front of a moss-covered stone, waiting for his beloved to return. Just as doubt begins to creep in, a white lily opens its bud, fulfilling a long-held promise. |
