full HD video, colour, stereo sound
Edition 2/6 : US$16,000

Inspired by the opening chapter, ‘The First Night’ , of Soseki Natsume’s novel ‘Ten Nights of Dreams’, this video work reimagines the story of a man who waits for 100 years before a moss- covered stone, longing for the return of his beloved. Just as doubt begins to take root, a white lily blooms, fulfilling a promise long kept in silence.
Paralleling the passage of a century with the ephemeral fragrance of blooming flowers, the piece reinterprets this tale against the backdrop of Taiwan’s mountains and sea. The visuals evoke a delicate interplay of envy and doubt, exploring themes of patience, longing , and the fleeting nature of fulfillment.

I was invited to hold a solo exhibition at the home of a friend who runs an art space in London.
During my visit, I was struck by the intimacy of her space, which carried a warmth and wisdom reflective of her age and character, much like my own mother. I felt inspired to introduce an element of strangeness to it, which became the foundation for the creation of ‘ NOBODY ’.
The work examines how the gradual appearance of animals within the rhythm of daily life can obscure the distinction between presence and absence, embodying the essence of ‘ NOBODY .’
In everyday scenes, the invisible becomes visible, while the visible fades away, blurring boundaries through the shifting , haz y shadows of camels. This interplay invites profound questions: Can we see it, or not? Has reality begun to slip away?

When creating Reverie, I was guided by the first night of Ten Nights of Dreams by Natsume Sōseki.
Though often read as a story of enduring love, I see in it the quiet collapse of the world—and of time itself.
The man beheld the world through the woman’s eyes. Her gaze was a threshold, a mirror in which his own existence took form. In losing her, he lost not only her presence, but the very world reflected in her eyes.
After her death, time drifted, held only by the distant rhythms of the sun and moon, just as she had foretold. Yet moss crept softly over stone, and something unspoken began to enter the world. As doubt and resignation deepened, he encountered her once more—now as a lily. In that fragile meeting, reality returned to him, and with it, the quiet reclaiming of his own time.
In a pair of drawings, I trace this world—where one cannot go on living without dreaming.
