About Exhibition
In this show, I painted time. I painted space. I painted my desk, and Mr. Hsieh’s. My past works. His new ones. My heart. His heart. My home. His home. I painted the General—and let him go see the sea. You’re invited to meet Mr. Hsieh. Through these paintings, get to know him. And maybe, through his way of seeing, begin to regard you yourself. In《Mr. Hsieh》, artist Hsieh Mu-Chi extends the narrative first introduced in his 2024 solo exhibition《The Place of Origin》at Chiayi Art Museum—through the character “Mr. Hsieh.” As a surrogate and an observer at once, Mr. Hsieh exists in the in-between distance: between painter and painting, perception and reflection. Through this figure, the artist deepens his inquiry into the sense of time in painting—not only as linear chronology, but as a rhythm of recollection and return. Old and new works are placed in dialogue—not simply to recognize as before and after, but to reveal a personal temporality, a re-weaving moment of time. What unfolds on the canvas traces a path through the artist’s inner landscape of creation, while also gesturing outward—to shared histories and cultural memory. The Time here is layered: personal and collective, intimate and distant. As both witness and evidence, Mr. Hsieh moves through these temporal spaces, guiding us toward a quiet but insistent question: Who am I? Between image and imagination, memory and presence, you are invited to step into the world of Mr. Hsieh — to see, to feel, to remember, and perhaps, to look for yourself. |
