展覽介紹
文/ Y2K 它的存有是物質的,是光的,是資訊的,是密碼的。 《和光Lighthesis》展覽計畫是一場物我關係的探索、是一場對物體重新認識的經驗。Y2K團隊轉化過往以電訊號對生物系統的詮釋觀點,以人類官能限制與物質世界之間的差異作為主軸,發展出全新系列《Lichtung》,嘗試轉譯「能量」於物質-生物體間轉遞的過程,藉剖析其間交互關係,進行解碼與再編碼的重構,實踐感官經驗的另一層論述與理解。 自2018年起,Y2K團隊開啟了《Biosignal》實驗系列,利用生物電位的偵測與訊號的語意釋放形塑有機的藝術語彙,討論人與其他生命的互動模式。而後轉以機器介入觀者的感知經驗,使觀者得以它物種感知視角重新認識環境。 在過往的創作當中,我們可以認識到電子訊號不足以描述生物體與外界環境互動的所有過程,以創作者的立場應該對此提出進一步地追問。譬如人如何看見煙火?是因為原子內的質子量將決定金屬燃燒時電子能階躍遷所放出的能量單位,不同能量指向不同波長的色光,這些光量子射入人的視網膜激發生物訊號傳至大腦,於是人們認識了飽含富麗色彩的煙火。然而物質世界的原始資訊、人類接收到的所有訊號以及人類感知的實際訊息,這三者真的能畫上等號嗎? 在這個辯證中所產生的提示是,物質世界中所發生的事件也許與人類最終得到的資訊存在著官能極限導致的落差,這是一段極細微卻關鍵的斷裂,我們認識的世界是感官框架下的翻譯版,意味著真實性的缺席,在感官及知能處理外部編碼的能力有限之下,透過科學可以窺視世界與物質態樣的一隅,藝術暨實驗性的展示就是另闢一段認識自身以外「它」的新徑。 補助/支援單位 李家維實驗室 Its very being is essentially material, light-based, informational, and encrypted.The exhibition “Lighthesis” is as much an exploratory journey across the subject-object relation as an experience of rediscovering objects. The Y2K artist duohas transformed its previous electronic signal-based interpretation of biological systems, and developed the brand new series Lichtungthat revolves around the difference between the physical universeand human sensory limitations.This series seeks to translate the transmission process of “energy” between matter and organisms. By analyzing their interrelationships, this series reconstructs them through decoding and recoding, insofar as to arrive at another level of discourse and understanding of sensory experience.The Y2K artist duohas been developing its experimental series Biosignalsince 2018. This series employs the detection and semantic interpretation of bio-potential signals to build its organic vocabulary of art, with whichthe patterns of interaction between humankind and other creatures are exhibited. The Y2K artist duothen intervenes in the viewer’sperceptual experience with machines, allowing the viewer to rediscoverthe environment from the perspective of another species.The previous works by the Y2K artist duoinformed us that electronic signals alone are not sufficient to describe the entire process of interaction betweenan organism and its external environment.From the standpoint of artistic creators, the artist duo enquires further into this issue. For example, what’s the mechanism whereby people can see fireworks? The number of protons in anatomdetermines the amount of energy released through the electronic transitionduring the metal combustion. Different amounts of energy produce colored light of different wavelengths. The photons fall on the retina, prompting the light-sensitive cells to send biological signals to the brain, so that we see the multi-colored fireworks. However, can we simply make the equationamong the original information of the physical universe, all the signals humans receive, and the actual messages we perceive?This dialectical proposition suggests that there may be a gap between the events unfolding in the physical universe and the information humans ultimately receive. Such a gap is caused by human sensory limitations. It is a fracture |
