Wang Chung-Kun is one of the rising stars in media art in Taiwan. He has created various forms of machinery that have consistently maintained an intriguing purity and peculiar sense of beauty. As the viewers approach, these machines operate on their own untiringly. Sound-making, switching on and off, exhaling, spinning or twinkling, they can simply do more than a single action. Rather, they have their own rhythm variation, as if they have a life of their own.
The ‘Kong‧Qi’ series and the ‘sound of bottles’ series are masterpieces of Wang. The ‘Kong‧Qi – Installation’ in 2011 has made Wang win the ‘Kaohsiung Awards – Observer Award’. Also, the collaboration with Huang Yi, a famous dancer in ‘Symphony Project - I.violin’ in 2010 won him the First Prize in the Digital Art Performance Award of the Digital Art Festival in Taipei. Other significant exhibitions included ‘+-*/’, his solo sound installation exhibition in 2010 and ‘Transjourney – 2012 Future Media Festival’ in 2012 etc. Wang lives and continues his creation in Taipei. He is interested and good at sound art, kinetic sculpture and interactive art. |
